REGION: San Onofre forum set for Wednesday

TEMECULA —- The Riverside County Office of Emergency Services plans to hold a forum on San Onofre Nuclear Generating Station issues Wednesday in Temecula.

The forum is scheduled to run from 8:30 a.m. to noon in the conference center at the Temecula Civic Center, 41000 Main St.

The meeting is open to the public, but is not a public hearing.

Zuzzette Bricker, an emergency services coordinator assigned to Southwest County, said the session is an informational seminar for officials from Temecula, Murrieta, Lake Elsinore, Wildomar, Canyon Lake and Menifee.

A panel will feature representatives from Southern California Edison and emergency managers from San Diego and Orange counties, and the city of Dana Point.

San Onofre has been idle since January, when one of the plant’s reactors was shut down as a precaution after a tube break. Another reactor was taken offline that month for maintenance. Investigators discovered damage to scores of tubes in both units.
