My new travel trailer is full of major defects, as investigated by the Florida Division of Motorist Services, Manufactured Housing Section. While RVs and associated products are a billion-dollar business, mine is an example of poor design and construction.
Unfortunately, this state agency could not force the company, one of the largest in the U.S., to replace it or refund my money — only repair.
Repairing has meant moving out, renting a short-term seasonal place and being a displaced person while it was removed to rebuild parts. This has been an expensive, laborious, stressful time and a great disappointment for a retired snowbird expecting to have a turnkey residence here.
Now it will have diminished value. I would hate to have anyone else go through this experience.
